Both "Day Runners" (Tier 1) and teams staying on the Lord Amory (Tiers 2* & 3*) are given their packs for the day from 9:00. The packs contain all of the necessary paper work such as pictures of the places the teams have to visit (all from the standard Monopoly board), maps & emergency cards and a small quiz that can be completed whilst going round. Tier 1 teams can either start at the Lord Amory or meet two of the Control Team under the clock at Waterloo. When the clock strikes 9:00 the teams at the Lord Amory will be set free and shortly after at 9:30 teams at Waterloo will also be allowed to start the 'Run' too. Teams consist of a max of 6 & a minimum of 4 per team. These can be Scouts (with an adult) Explorers (may need an adult), Leaders (also may need an adult to keep them on the straight & narrow) Guides (with an adult).
When the 'Run' has started your main aim is to try an visit as many of the places that are in the packs. If you get to a property first you will have the option to "buy", but if you get there & someone has beaten you, you may have to "pay" rent. This is all done by the control team back on Lord Amory where there are 5 control staff waiting for your calls to log all "movements". With every 4th property your team visits will also earn your team £200 for passing go, as well as "chance & community chest cards" up for grabs, you will be asked each time you visit a place for a number that relates to a card, they are all totally based on the original board game.
When you 'Pass Go' you will also receive by text your bank total, so you know what you have to spend. Part of the run is to help you navigate a city transport system but in a fun way & believe me & any others that have done this run it will keep you fit!! In the past we have had teams who used a "TAXI" to try a beat another team to a property, unfortunately they didn't get there quick enough!!!
The run finishes at 17:00, all the teams then need to make their way back to the Lord the results will be announced as soon as all teams are back. Dinner is then served. It's at this stage that teams on Tier 1 are able to start making their way back home. For anybody on Tiers 2 & 3 you have the option to visit the local cinema where you can watch the a film (age dependant, obviously. It would be wise from past experience that you being some ID with you for this)
One thing that we have noticed in the years that we have been running this event, this is our 5th year now. Scouts in London are given a lot of respect if you are in full uniform, teams from Bordon Scouts have proved this each time that they have attended. Their Leaders have managed to "blag" free rides on the London eye for their entire team, then while outside No10 Downing street got the Policeman on duty to take a photo of the whole team on No 10's doorstep, all mainly because they were in uniform.
If you have any more questions about the run don't hesitate to contact us, and we hope to see you join us this year.
* Please note that there are limited spaces on these tiers due to the amount of bunks that are available, to ensure a space please book early.
